Before the 3rd minute, River had the first clear chance on the left-hand side: a good cross from Nacho Fernández and a header attempt by Pablo Solari that narrowly missed Alejandro Araque’s goal. Meanwhile, the home team barely threatened with a long-range shot from Yeferson Chacón; River almost took the lead with a clear opportunity for Miguel Borja, who couldn’t quite steer a header from Facundo Colidio’s cross into the net.

The Colombian forward was involved in another opportunity just a few seconds later: a good dribble at the edge of the box and a left-footed shot towards the goal that sailed over the crossbar. River’s momentum waned a bit, and the team found it challenging to pose a threat in the final stretch, although Colidio attempted a promising header off a free kick by Nacho.

The first fifteen minutes of the second half were very similar to the end of the first half, with River being dominant, well-organized, and enjoying more possession, but lacking creativity to pose a threat. Claudio Echeverri came on, quickly gained confidence, and unleashed a shot from outside the box that, after a deflection, fell to Borja, who couldn’t get past Araque’s close-range save.

After relentless pressure, River deservedly took the lead: a series of rebounds in the opponent’s area, and Sebastián Boselli fearlessly intercepted a clearance, netting the 1-0 lead. Buoyed by the momentum, within minutes, Nicolás Fonseca unleashed a stunning goal to set the score at 2-0: he volleyed it from a distance, catching Araque by surprise with a spectacular right-footed shot to score his first goal wearing the River jersey.

Martín Demichelis’ team encountered no major obstacles and confidently secured the first three points in the new edition of the CONMEBOL Libertadores. On Sunday, River will host Rosario Central at the Mâs Monumental stadium in a crucial match for the Professional League Cup.
