River started off on a stronger footing and asserted dominance in the opponent’s half, although the team struggled to create danger in attack. However, in an isolated attack, Rosario Central took the lead with a right-footed shot from Lautaro Giaccone. River tried to play down the wings, with Claudio Echeverri making runs inside. In one of the last plays of the first half, Facundo Colidio tested Axel Werner with a weak header, which the keeper controlled easily.

Shortly after the second half began, River pressed Central and quickly created two clear chances through Pablo Solari: a good shot from outside the box that was saved by the keeper, and another one near the goal, which he couldn’t convert after a deflection. Around the 65th minute, Nacho Fernández linked up effectively with Solari, who set up Miguel Borja to score the equalizer.

River dominated until the end of the match, had a good chance to set the score at 2-1 with a cross-shot that Werner parried before Borja could intercept it. After the 85th minute, and following a precise long pass from Esequiel Barco and a brilliant assist from Nacho, player No. 9 didn’t disappoint: he smashed the ball into the net with a volley, securing the win for River Plate in a crucial match for qualification.

With this win, River has accumulated 24 points and is now in a position to secure qualification on its own terms on the last matchday, when the team heads to Córdoba to take on Instituto. River’s next match will be this Thursday against Uruguay’s Nacional, in the CONMEBOL Libertadores.
