In a somewhat contested start with few threatening moments, River made the first move with a slick collective play that saw Rodrigo Aliendro attempt a backheel inside the box, but he failed to find a teammate. In another impressive attacking sequence, Nacho Fernández made a pass to Aliendro, who then set up Facundo Colidio, only for the latter to miss a comfortable finish.

The home team had a dangerous opportunity with a free kick from Damián Puebla that struck the crossbar. Shortly after, Instituto capitalized on a penalty to take a 1-0 lead. Before the end of the first half, River Plate had clear-cut opportunities: one from Colidio following a run by Pablo Solari, and another from Claudio Echeverri, whose shot was cleared off the line, after his effort had beaten Miguel Roffo.

River took control as soon as the second half began, and within the first four minutes, troubled Roffo with a high shot from Andrés Herrera at the edge of the box. Right away, Solari crafted a brilliant play inside the box: he cut inside and fired a left-footed shot that narrowly missed the target. After continuous pressure, River equalized with a header by Colidio, courtesy of a precise cross from Enzo Díaz.

Around the 60th minute, River countered, with Colidio collecting the ball and delivering a precise pass to Solari. However, being one-on-one with the keeper, Solari couldn't slot home the 2-1 lead with a low finish. Keeping up the pressure, Manuel Lanzini nearly surprised Roffo with a free kick, but the second goal eventually came with another fantastic header from Colidio off a corner kick.

Colidio capped off a perfect evening with an exquisite left-footed finish, capitalizing on a rebound off Roffo. Thus, River Plate clinched the win on Cordoba’s turf, securing their spot in the quarterfinals of the Professional Football League Cup.
