Martín Demichelis’ team beat Montevideo’s Nacional 2-0 at the Mâs Monumental stadium, with a beautiful goal from Claudio Echeverri and a header from Facundo Colidio, claiming another win in the CONMEBOL Libertadores.

River came out swinging in the first few minutes, with Claudio Echeverri right in the thick of it, pulling the strings and creating the most dangerous opportunities. Pablo Solari broke free on the right side and unleashed a low shot that Luis Mejía saved down low; Nacional’s keeper reacted well to save two shots from Rodrigo Aliendro and Echeverri from outside the box.

Finally, around the 15th minute, Echeverri scored a screamer for the 1-0 lead, sending a superb long-range shot into the bottom corner. River could have widened the lead with a dangerous corner kick from Nacho Fernández and a right-footed shot from Andrés Herrera. Nacional posed little threat, save for an individual effort from Christian Ebere, which was met with a great save by Franco Armani to prevent the equalizer.

Barely into the second half, Ebere once again posed a threat, attempting a right-footed cross-shot that went wide. River countered with a fantastic shot from Miguel Borja, saved by the keeper, and Aliendro’s follow-up hit the crossbar. At the end, Facundo Colidio met a fine cross from Esequiel Barco with his head and sealed the 2-0 result.

With this win, River sits atop Group H in the CONMEBOL Libertadores, with six points from two matches. The next match will be on Monday, for the final round of the Professional League Cup, against Instituto in Córdoba.
