In the first dangerous play, three minutes into the game, Estudiantes took the lead with a header from Javier Correa, following a cross from Edwuin Cetré from the right. River tried to bounce back and quickly began to threaten Estudiantes’ goal, with a free kick and a header from Nacho Fernández; the opponent also had a chance with a low right-footed shot from Correa that was met with a solid save by Franco Armani.

River deserved the equalizer and had four very clear chances: Paulo Díaz put Matías Mansilla to the test with a header, but then the keeper denied Miguel Borja a clear chance with a low save; in another instance, he saved a shot from Nacho Fernández (a play set up by Esequiel Barco). Near the end of the first half, Sebastián Boselli gained control in the box and unleashed a left-footed shot that went over Estudiantes’ goal. The opponent lacked offensive presence thereafter.

In the early minutes of the second half, following a recovery by Santiago Simón in River’s half, Facundo Colidio broke away on the left and forced Mansilla to react by his right post. River didn’t allow Estudiantes to play, and Borja almost equalized with a bicycle kick that narrowly missed the target. The opposing keeper once again prevented the 1-1 by blocking a left-footed shot from Claudio Echeverri from the edge of the box.

River earned the deserved equalizer following a play by Solari on the right and a cross that deflected off Zaid Romero, catching Mansilla off guard. In the next play, Rodrigo Villagra came very close to making it 2-1, but his long-range shot was once again met with a solid save from Estudiantes’ keeper.

In added time, Rodrigo Aliendro, who had been subbed in minutes earlier, unleashed a spectacular, championship-worthy right-footed shot to seal the 2-1 win, securing River Plate’s latest title—the third under Martín Demichelis’ tenure as head coach.
