Simeone and Crew beat San Lorenzo
Por Carlos Soria - 25/02/2008 - 04:52

With goals from Falcao and Abelairas, River was able to dominate the match and beat San Lorenzo with a final score of 2-0. Fans from both sides were eager to experience a match in which a lot was in play. In River’s side, we saw a team that has recently struggled to find itself on the field, players that worked really hard on the pitch but could not deliver, and a coach that was desperate for a win. On San Lorenzo’s side, we saw team that had major names behind its logo, especially Andres D’Alessandro and Diego Placente. Ramon Diaz, their coach, was under a lot pressure to win a match and having been at least 300 minutes without scoring a goal, the pressure was on.
The first half turned out to be an interesting one. Ramon Diaz, the ex-River coach who now directs San Lorenzo, was applauded by all of the River fans in the stadium. He is the coach who has won the most titles with River and although he rejected River’s coaching position this past December, the fans still love him. On the other hand, Andres D’Alessandro was booed and whistled every time he managed to touch the ball. It was a bit disrespectful but everyone wanted him to play in River and he chose to play for the other team. A little over the 25th minute, Falcao was able to pass a header through Orion’s net and give River the lead. With possession all over the field, San Lorenzo looked hopeless.
The second half brought lots of attention to Abelairas as he scored a beautiful goal thanks to the wits of Alexis Sanchez and the other players around him. His celebration of scoring goals has been wonderful as of late, and his goal during this match was the one that secured the match. I see a future star in this young player and hopefully, he can stay with the Millonarios for a long time. This Wednesday, the 27th, River face against Club America in Buenos Aires for the Copa Santander Libertadores. It’s going to be a tough match but America has been downhill since the beginning of the month so this going to play a huge factor.
