Five goals ladies and gentlemen. Five goals are what San Marin of Peru took away with them back to Lima. What a tremendous night it was in the Monumental Stadium in Buenos Aires has River humiliated the Peruvian team 5-0. This game was the next step in obtaining access to the second round, and all of the fans in the stadium had their nerves on alert. The atmosphere in the stadium was great as little by little, the fans started to invade each section. One of the things that were of great concern was the smoke lurking around Buenos Aires. There were brush fires in the outskirts of the capital which caused smoke all around the province but this did not stop the game from taking place.

The initial whistle of the first half caused an aggressive River to push forward to the opposing side’s goal area. Within the first minute, River demonstrated that they were in charge and determined to win the match. At the 13th minute, Sebastian Abreu scored the first goal of the night and the Monumental exploded. He celebrated his goal by playing an imaginary clarinet, which was dedicated to a relative who plays wind instruments. Why am I telling you this? I'll explain in a bit. Fifteen minutes later, it was Radamel Falcao’s turn to celebrate and off a “taquito” shot (off the heel), he celebrated by dancing cumbia. I find this interesting because it has been know by many that River usually doesn’t have extravagant celebration but tonight was different. San Martin looked totally lost and their efforts were disastrous. As the first half came to an end, chants of “ORTEGA! ORTEGA!’ could be heard.

The second half came about and once again, River took the dominant role. At the 51st minute, Abreu once again scored off a header and went to celebrate with Ortega and the substitutes behind the ads. This gesture was greatly received by the fans and the “Burrito” acknowledged the love that everybody has for him. With the score 3-0, the game was pretty much over but the fans wanted more and more, they got. At the 82nd minute, Andres Rios scored of a rebound in close range to. Is it over? Not yet! At the 90th minute, “Mr. Hat-trick” Abreu sealed the night with a tremendous shot past San Martin’s goalkeeper. First place in the group and in the championship; this is the RIVER I know and have always known. Thank You, River.
