With heavy rains pouring down on Buenos Aires, River managed a partial victory against San Martin of San Juan with a score of 3-2. Fans in the Monumental Stadium witnessed an exciting game in which River’s offensive seemed to have improved since the start of the season. Both sides started the match, determined to score as soon as possible. With the “hinchada”, or fan base, cheering on River, it came as no surprise that the Millonarios scored first.

In the first half, Sebastian “El Loco” Abreu scored his first official goal with River. His goal came off a rebound of his previous shot in which it came off the goal post and magically landed right back to him. It was interesting to see how the fans screamed “GOOOOLL” on the first shot but quickly realized it had hit the post. Nonetheless, Abreu made sure his goal was not screamed in vain. Ten minutes later, San Juan was able to tie the match due to a very doubtful penalty awarded by Referee Brazenas. With the game all tied up again, River went out strong to take back the lead. Five minutes later, the young emerging star, Buonanotte, drilled a shot from outside the box to take back the lead. Personally, it was the best goal of the week!

In the second half, the stadium erupted with the famous “Ole, Ole, Ole, Tano! Tano!”. At the thirteenth minute, defender Cristian Nasuti, scored off a header lobbied by Ariel Ortega. If you follow River closely, Nasuti has been one of the strongest defenders that River has had in the past few years. His determination and ambition to leave everything on the field has struck a special place in all of the fan’s heart. A few minutes later, San Juan managed to score a decent goal past Carrizo, which uplifted the team’s spirit to get back in the game. With heavy rains starting to pour down, Referee Brazenes halted the game for a few minutes and then suspended the match.

The final nine minutes of the match will be played later in March and if River is able to maintain the score, a valuable three points will be added to the Millonarios name. The next game will be played on Sunday, March 9th, en La Plata against Estudiantes de La Plate. To add some spice to the match, River’s coach, Diego Simeone, left Estudiantes to join River.
