What a wonderful game that took place tonight in Buenos Aires. With a score of 2 to 1, River Plate defeated Club America from Mexico in the second game of the Copa Santander Libertadores. This game was essential for both teams, but not so greater than for River. Tonight’s win ties all four teams in the group at three points apiece and it leaves a window open for River to win the group.

At the 15th minute, America’s Salvador Cabana’s goal lead the Mexican team to a 1 to nil lead. With so many chances missed by River to score, it was only a matter time in which a counterattack would be used on the Millonarios. This play started just like that, off a center that landed on open Cabanas. River had missed so many opportunities to score that the fans started to really push the team. It seems that somebody above heard the prayers because at the 37th minute, Falcao tied the match thanks to an assist by the “Loco” Abreu. After this play, River dominated the game and had additional chances to score. River's defense still scares, especially when Cabral and Tuzzio are alone. This area still needs a lot of work.

During the second half of the match, a lot of change occurred. At the 68th minute, Falcao was incorrectly kicked out of the game. He got into a little quarell, thanks to an America’s boisterous player. Although the majority of River fans disagreed with this action, it was the one that eventually distracted America'splayers. Buonanotte received possession from a bad clearance shot by an America’s player. He quickly passed it to Ortega and at the 92nd minute of the match drills the winning goal.

This comes to show us that us fans have to support River, in good times and bad. The fans really did push the team forward. On Sunday, the 2nd of March, River face off against San Martin of San Jujuy, Argentina.
