No Goals in Rosario
Por Carlos Soria - 19/02/2008 - 02:18

After a tremendously hot day in Rosario, River managed to come out with a tie at no goals against Newell’s Old Boys. In front of a packed crowd, both teams needed a win to maintain itself high in the league but the result did not faze me whatsoever. I expected a win from River, as I do every Sunday, and I though I would be happy by the end of the night. Well, it turns out that River’s prestige once again is left out of the picture.
River started the match with a strong offensive push and the first goal almost came in at the fourth minute. River’s new acquisition, “El Loco” Abreu managed to catch Newell’s goalkeeper off his mark and he kicked a long shot a little past the midline of the patch and the ball made its way down the field, hitting the top crossbar. All of the Millonario fans got excited, as this shot was a clear goal but luck was far away from Rosario. River had many chances to score, but the ball did not want to go in. I have seen this happen many times to my beloved River, and it always comes back to bite the team.
The second half of the match was heavily controlled by Newell’s and River’s goalkeeper, Juan Pablo Carrizo, became the man of the match. He saved so many shots that he earned his role as leader during the last minutes of the match. Although I admire Carrizo, I think that we shouldn’t rely on him always. River needs to score goals and accomplish things. Without winning matches, the dream of becoming champions is fading away quick. Next Sunday, the 24th of February, River face off with San Lorenzo in the Monumental Stadium. I would like to add the two ex-River players will make their debut against River and they are Andres D’Alessandro and Diego Placente. How will they be received? Time will tell.
