Simeone's First Win!
Por Carlos Soria - 18/01/2008 - 23:32

Well everyone, I am officially back to work at LPM but not all has been good so far. I got sick in the beginning of the year so I was unable to post any news for the game with Independiente. For those of you who still don’t know the result, River tied the match 1-1 and Simeone’s first game as coach of the Millonarios went rather well. Although the goal was a result of a penalty, the team played rather well with the “B” team.
Last night, River played in Salta versus Racing Club in the second match of the preseason. In front of a really large fan base in Northern Argentina, River set out to win this match. In the first half of the match, Racing Club looked to be the dominant team but a few counter attacks by River provided showed some weakness in Racing’s side. The second half brought the goals from River, one of which was a penalty awarded to Ferrari in the 82nd minute. A few minutes later, Marco Ruben was able to receive a beautiful center pass to seal the victory.
Many in the press have agreed that this relatively new River squad is a mirror reflection of the previous season but with time and dedication, I know that Simeone can bring a wining side to the team The major news of the day was that Archubi trained with River’s major stars today in Mar del Plata (which will make their debut against Boca on the 26th of Jan.) making Simeone’s request of players becoming a reality. With Archubi, Cabral, and Abreu set to make their debut next week, all looks good for the River squad.
Before I finish this post, I would like to apologize for not mentioning the teams that River will face in the Copa Santander Libertadores 2008. Being sick has delayed my posts! River has been locked in with America (MEX), San Martin (PER), and Universidad Catolica (CHI).
