Passarella Says Goodbye

This morning, Daniel Alberto Passarella, quit his position as head coach of River Plate. With the loss to Arsenal last night, his exit from the club was inevitable and expected.

On May 25, 2007, DT Passarella read a letter to the press indicating that he would leave the club on his own if a championship was not obtained by the end of this year. He read this letter to the press because the fans, as well as management, were furious at River's early exit from the Copa Libertadores and not winning the local tournament. Although the future looked promising that day, River still had a lot of problems.

Fast forward 6 months later and we see the Millonarios without any title, and without this disastrous coach. We will always appreciate Passarella as a player, especially for his dominance in his role, but as coach, not so much. I would to list all of the reasons why I thank Daniel as he departs from the club.

- Thank you for making River the laughing stock of the league.

- Thank you for losing matches to unknown teams or "B" teams.

- Thank you for saying that Belluschi is worth 40 million dollars when in reality he is worth 1, if that.

- Thank you for putting on Carrizo when Ojeda looked to be a promising goalkeeper.

- Thank you for requesting players that did not care about the significance of playing for River.

- Thank you for making every River fan lose his or her patience and demand your resignation.

- Thank you for not winning anything in 2 years.

- Thank you for leaving.

What will 2008 be in the world of River? I have no idea and I'm pretty much worried that it will be another hard year. Who will replace Passarella? As far as the rumors go, we see "Tolo" Gallego and Diego Simeone fighting out the position. I would prefer Simeone, do you?
