That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, River beat Boca Juniors 2-0 and stretched the streak to five games in which Boca has lost. Against all the odds put by the media, River demonstrated a talent like no other to overcome the most hated rival. With an excellent goal by Radamel Falcao and a penalty shot by the “Burrito” Ortega, the “Millonarios” were victorious in the Monumental in front of 60,000 fans.

The first half the game was dominated by River Plate. Boca could not drive up the ball past midfield, and for the first time in many games, our defense was strong. With a brilliant game by Ahumada, the last line of defense was impenetrable.

The first goal came at the 23rd minute after Belluschi hot the top bar off his header. At the rebound, Falcao shot a strong left kick to pas by Caranta and explode the stadium. Radamel always looks up when scoring a goal, thanking God for the score. This time, God shined his grace in Buenos Aires and let River come out victorious once again.

The second goal was scored on the 31st minute by Ortega. After a strong tackle to Buonanotte in the goalkeeper’s area, a penalty was awarded to River and Ortega was the one in charge of scoring. As he prepared to take the shot, the “Burrito” tried his usual fake move before taking a shot. He pretends to kick the ball, stops, and then continues to kick. This move confused Boca’s Caranta and this resulted in the goalkeeper to block Ortega’a kick, on the fact that he was a meter away from the goal line. The penalty was reissued and Ortega scored to finalize the score.

The second half showed the crowd as the energy behind the team. With “Ole’s” left and right, Boca couldn’t manage itself. On the 24th minute, Banega was sent off causing Boca to be on the pitch with 10 players. This resulted in total dominion for River and the crowd knew how to work it. With chants like “Pone a Riquelme” (Put on Riquelme), “Soy de River” (I’m from River), and many more, the River fans dominated the stands, leaving Boca fans and their “12” into humiliation.

The highlight of the game was everybody’s new favorite player, Buonanotte. This young player emerged from the “Inferiores”, River’s youth side. His quick talent and agile movements proved to be efficient in the game. The best move, one that will be remembered for a lifetime, was the “cañito” trick done on Neri Cardozo. A beautiful individual pass between the legs of the Boca player infuriated Neri and he followed up with the usual dirty play of a Boca player. He ended kicking Buonanotte in the ribs but the shame of having the “cañito” done on him will live forever.

With courage, heart, and determination, this victory could have never happened. With Independiente and Boca losing on Sunday, the league could be attainable by River and if all the games are won, the “Millos” could be proclaimed champions. The next game is on the 21st of October, versus Gimnasia de la Plata.
