With sweat, tears, and strength, River won a fabulous match against the biggest rival of all time, Boca Juniors. Many in the news media have mentioned that this game was probably the best “Super Clasico” they had seen in a long time! The game was played in Malvinas Stadium in Mendoza, Argentina and the Millonarios were able to bring lots of joy to all the fans spread around the world.

The first half was very exciting as both teams had many chances to drive the ball down the field but Boca seemed to be the better half. The initial shock came in the 16th minute when Paletta scored on a header to open the score at 1-0. This goal, although to Boca’s favor, seemed to be what River needed to react back more effectively. The dynamic duo of Falcao and Abreu worked fabulous, as well as Nicolas Sanchez, who became the biggest factor in tonight’s victory. At the 23rd minute, Radamel Falcao tied the match with a strong left shot! The pass by Sanchez was impeccable. At the 33rd minute of the match, Abreu scored off a rebound by Boca’s defender, Caceres, and at the point the game was 2-1 in favor of River. A few minutes later, a penalty was awarded to River and Ortega sealed the deal to be up 3-1.

The start of the second half exciting as both teams were poised to win the match. The game’s referee, Mr. Pezotta (who is very controversial may I add), awarded a penalty to Boca and Martin Palermo was the one to take the kick, He gracefully shot it passed Carrizo and the game was an intense 3-2. River looked to be the dominating through out the rest of the half but some very strange things happened through out the end. Three of River player’s were ejected from the game due to controversies on the field and to top it all off, Abreu missed a clear shot to end the match.

This tremendous victory in Mendoza is dedicated to all of those people who doubt River, who doubt Simeone, and who doubt the players but especially to those who doubt the fans. The next game is the league opener versus Gimansia de Jujuy on Febraury 10, 2008.
