Velez Wins in the Monumental Stadium

"By the sixth match, I will have a solid team”. That it is what Diego Simeone promised the fans of River when asked about his rotating formations. Ladies and gentlemen, the sixth match arrived and not only was River’s squad different from the previous weeks but nothing that was promised was accomplished. Last night, Velez Sarsfield visited the Monumental Stadium in hopes of escaping with an important victory. The last time Velez visited our stadium, they left with five goals against them, three being scored by Fernando Belluschi. Unfortunately, this did not happen. River lost by one goal against Velez and left a horrible image on the field. This “2-1”result fell hard in the hearts of many but for those who really follow River, it was a smack in the face.

It seems that River has not been playing like they should be playing. Many factors could be to blame, like the exit of Ortega, the incontinency with formations, injuries, and so on but the real problem is the River is playing with no heart. I would even come to say without “balls”. There seems to be a lack of respect for the jersey and for the fans. I like to comment on each half of the match because it’s good to analyze but there isn’t much to analyze this time. In both halves, River lost control of the ball and was counter attacked like crazy. Every game seems to follow this tactic, if you can call it that, and nobody can seem to find a solution to this problem.

Six point of a possible eighteen. That is what River has achieved in the first six weeks of the tournament. Let me remind you that River will debut in the Copa Nissan Sudamericana next Thursday against Defensor Sporting of Uruguay but before will meet with San Martin of Tucuman this Sunday. These are very important games that will determine River’s future. I can only hope that all victories will be the result from this point on. Is it possible to win the local tournament and an international cup? A poll in the La Pagina Millonaria resulted in 90% favor for the international cup. Lets hope they are right.
